Supporting Local

All of the information and advocation around supporting local might be a little overwhelming for some. Our capital city has tons of resources to make supporting local businesses easier than ever for residents (shoutout to the great work Obby Khan is doing through Good Local Inc.), but what if you don’t live in Winnipeg?

We’ve segmented the region into four groups—North, East, South, and West—and have included shop local platforms in those areas that you can give your business to today!

So, without further ado, here we go…

Resources for all Manitobans

We focused this post on support local businesses and initiatives in specific areas of the region, but we’d like to start it off with resources that are available to all residents.

Travel Manitoba

We can’t talk about supporting the region without mentioning Travel Manitoba. This provincial resource is the first stop to find out about all the wonderful sights and experiences Manitoba has to offer. Find recent blog posts on 10 virtual things to do in Manitoba this week, 20 amazing Manitoba-themed gifts, and so much more.

Buylocal.ly

Buylocal.ly provides a place where business owners can let people know if they are still open and what they are doing differently during these difficult times (reduced hours, now offering pickup or delivery, etc.). Take a look at the site’s interactive map to discover local businesses you may have never even realized were in your neighbourhood. From the south end of Winnipeg to the northern tip of Stonewall, this is a great resource for finding local businesses near you.

Support Small Businesses Manitoba—Facebook Group

So much of the “support local” conversation is happening on social media today, which means that there are a ton of hidden Manitoba gems to discover. This Facebook group might be one of the most helpful resources on this list because of the insightful conversations readers can access. Manitobans are sharing businesses, gift ideas, and so much more.
